The Book of Revelation Already Fulfilled
The entire timeline of modern Christian eschatology rests on a single second-century source who was demonstrably wrong about Jesus’ age at death.
The Core Argument
The Irenaeus Dependency
The church father Irenaeus wrote in Against Heresies that Jesus was in his 50s when he was crucified. This is the same man that Christianity counts on for its claim that John wrote Revelation in the 90s AD during the reign of Domitian or Trajan.
Irenaeus is from the second century—writing 100+ years after the events he describes. He was the only significant source that Christian eschatology relies upon for this late dating.
If Irenaeus got it wrong about Jesus’ age at death — and he clearly did — then how can he be right about John writing Revelation during the reign of Trajan? That being the case means that Revelation has been misdated.

If Revelation was actually written before 70 AD — as internal evidence and earlier sources suggest — then the book was written to seven real churches facing real Roman persecution, describing events that were genuinely “at hand” for its original readers.
“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

The Gospel Revolution takes these time statements seriously. “Shortly.” “Near.” “At hand.” These are not 2,000-year delays. They are urgent warnings to a first-century audience about first-century events.

Internal: Temple Still Standing
Revelation 11 describes measuring the Temple — which was destroyed in 70 AD. A post-70 author would not write this.
Time Language
“Shortly,” “at hand,” “near,” “quickly” — used throughout. Addressed to 7 real churches with real threats.
Nero’s Number
Gematria of 666 in Hebrew = Neron Caesar. Nero died in 68 AD — before the Jerusalem destruction.
The Irenaeus Problem
Only source for late dating also claimed Jesus was 50+ at crucifixion. Both cannot be reliable.

The Language of Revelation Points to Urgency, Not Delay
Revelation was written to first-century believers facing real persecution and immediate danger. The repeated words “shortly,” “near,” and “at hand” are not symbolic delays—they are urgent warnings to those who lived through those events.
