A Lifetime of "Not Yet"

For most of my adult life I have heard and was taught that Jesus Christ had not finished his gospel mission and that he still had to come back to finish the job. The unfinished job was judging the earth and mankind.

When the Only Witness Got It Wrong

The entire edifice of modern Christian eschatology rests on one second-century bishop: Irenaeus. He is the primary source for the claim that John wrote Revelation in the 90s AD during the reign of Domitian (or Trajan, depending on the translation). But Irenaeus also wrote in Against Heresies (Book II, Chapter 22) that Jesus was in his 50s when he was crucified. Every scholar agrees this is demonstrably wrong. The gospel accounts themselves make this impossible. If Irenaeus was that wrong about something as fundamental as Jesus’ age at death, how can the dating of Revelation — which determines the entire framework of Christian prophecy — rest securely on his testimony alone? The answer is: it can’t. And the Gospel Revolution exists to take that question seriously.
